FAQ’s

How is IceCream™ used?
IceCream™ is applied on the skin for 20 or more minutes prior to any procedure. This will allow time for IceCream™ to reach its peak effectiveness, and should not be shortened. It can be reapplied throughout the procedure to maintain numbness and vasoconstriction, and will not harden the skin.

Can it be used for the brows, lips, and eyes?
Its gentle, neutral pH is safe for all sensitive areas, including brows, eyelids, lips, scars, areolas, and more. Avoid getting it directly into the eye.

When will it start to work?
The fast-acting formula will start to set in within just a few minutes of initial application, with full efficacy at 20 minutes, and continued numbness for 2-3 hours for long-lasting relief.

Does it work on closed skin or broken skin?
IceCream™’s advanced formula is the only product on the market effective as both a primary numbing on closed skin and a secondary numbing on broken skin. Even with repeated application throughout the procedure, the skin will not harden to interfere with pigment deposit.

What is the pH of IceCream™?
IceCream™ is non-irritating with a pH of 6.5, similar to the pH of the skin. Deviations from neutral pH (7) can cause discomfort and eye irritation.

Where else can it be used?
IceCream™ is very versatile, and can also be used for body tattoos, Botox, injectables, laser tattoo removal, laser hair removal, microneedling, piercings, & more.

Does it need to be occluded?
Occluding the area after application will prevent evaporation and moisture loss, ensuring optimum results. However, do not ever cover the eye area, as occlusion could cause heat and melting of the product into the eyes.

Can I use it as a secondary by opening the skin first and then applying the product?
There is no need to break the skin barrier for IceCream™ to work. Simply apply to clean, intact skin and let the advanced formulation do the rest.
Can I use IceCream™ in my territory?
Since PMU artists are not medical professionals, the regulations on the use of anesthetic products will vary per state/country. Some jurisdictions allow artists to use over-the-counter primary and secondary topical anesthetics without regulation. Some areas have more strict policies. Check with your local health authority and insurance company, and always follow all local guidelines.

What is Phenylephrine?
IceCream™ opts for the use of Phenylephrine as a vasoconstrictor. This deliberate choice is significant as Epinephrine, commonly used in similar products, is known for its instability and is susceptible to degradation when subjected to factors such as heat, light, and humidity. Over time, Epinephrine can undergo discoloration, resulting in a loss of efficacy. In contrast, Phenylephrine provides a stable alternative, ensuring the longevity and effectiveness of the numbing process without making the skin feel rubbery.

Why does the skin turn “white/pale” during usage?
Vasoconstriction brought on by Phenylephrine reduces blood flow to the area, which can cause the skin to blanch or look “white” or pale. This is normal, helps to extend the numbing effect, and will diminish in a few hours.

Should I apply IceCream™ before or after drawing the design or mapping?
You can use IceCream™ in the same order you use your usual numbing products. For best results, apply it before drawing so it will not smear your design. If applied for 20 minutes, the numbing effect will last 2-3+ hours, so you still have plenty of time for design.
Do I need to do a patch test prior to use?
Always check with your local jurisdiction and insurance company about patch testing and follow protocol. If your client experiences excessive irritation, clean the product from the skin and seek out medical advice.

Where is the IceCream™ made?
IceCream™ is manufactured in both the USA and UK in an FDA-registered facility.
Why is IceCream™ called a hemorrhoid cream?
IceCream™ adheres to the FDA drug monograph, featuring a FDA compliant formula designated for hemorrhoidal relief, comprising of 5% Lidocaine and 0.25% Phenylephrine. This categorization is mandated by the FDA and must be indicated on the label, distinguishing IceCream™ as fully compliant with regulatory standards. While IceCream™ can serve to alleviate discomfort associated with hemorrhoids by reducing pain and swelling, its efficacy extends beyond this application. It effectively soothes pain and swelling on the face and body as well, and is an ideal numbing solution for PMU.

What should I do if my client’s pupils look dilated?
Pupil dilation occurs due to a peptide ingredient in the formula, Acetyl Hexapeptide-8, which blocks pain receptors. To counter this, eye drops or lubricants containing vasoconstrictors like naphazoline, tetrahydrozoline, phenylephrine, or oxymetazoline can help. These drops will reduce redness and return the pupils to their normal size.

You can find the following options at your local pharmacy: Oasis Tears Lubricant Eye Drops, Blink Tears Lubricating Eye Drops, Bion Tears Lubricant Eye Drops, TheraTears Lubricant Eye Drops, or Biotrue Hydration Eye Drops. It’s a good idea to have these drops on hand during treatments.

How To Use IceCream Topical Anesthetic

Achieving Brow Bliss

To ensure optimal results, follow these simple steps when using IceCream™ on brows:
  • Thoroughly clean & prep the skin: Begin by cleansing and sanitizing the brow area to remove any makeup, oils, or debris. This sets the stage for maximum absorption of IceCream™.
  • Apply a thick, even layer to clean, dry skin: Using a microswab or cotton swab, apply IceCream™ generously across the brow area, ensuring complete coverage.
  • Occlude and allow to set for 20 minutes: Once applied, cover the treated area with occlusive wrap to enhance absorption. Allow IceCream™ to sit for 20 minutes to ensure optimal numbing.
  • Remove the wrap and wipe away excess before beginning: After 20 minutes, carefully remove the occlusive wrap and wipe away any excess using a clean tissue or cotton pad. Alternatively, you can also design first and then apply IceCream™, being careful not to remove your design as you scrape or blot it off.
  • Reapply as needed throughout the procedure and let sit for 5 minutes: During the procedure, reapply IceCream™ as needed. Rub it into the skin to increase the energy of the active ingredients. Allow it to sit for 5 minutes each time before resuming work.

Attaining Eye Enhancements

For an optimal experience, follow these simple steps when using IceCream™ on eyelids:

  • Thoroughly clean & prep the skin: Begin by cleansing and sanitizing the eyelid area to remove any makeup, oils, or debris. This sets the stage for maximum absorption of IceCream™. Remember, no false eyelashes!
  • Moisturize the eyes: Utilize lubricating eye drops like Refresh Celluvisc to hydrate the eye. This will form a thick barrier over the eye to help protect them.
  • Apply a thin, even layer to clean, dry skin: Using a microswab or cotton swab, apply to the eyelids, being careful to avoid getting IceCream™ into the eye.
  • Apply a thick, even layer to clean, dry skin: Using a microswab or cotton swab, apply IceCream™ generously across the eyelids, ensuring complete coverage between the lashes.
  • Do not occlude the eyes: Once applied, allow IceCream™ to sit for 20 minutes to ensure optimal numbing. If IceCream™ does get into the eye itself, promptly rinse with saline solution. This helps minimize any potential discomfort or irritation.  If pain or vision issues arise, seek medical attention without delay.
  • Wipe away excess before beginning: After 20 minutes, carefully remove any excess using a cotton swab, clean tissue, or cotton pad.
  • Reapply as needed throughout the procedure and let sit for 5 minutes: During the procedure, reapply IceCream™ as needed. Rub it into the skin to increase the energy of the active ingredients. Allow it to sit for 5 minutes each time before resuming work.
  • Although IceCream™ is safe for eyelids, do your best to avoid direct contact with the eye itself, as this can result in dilated pupils, blurred vision, and swelling. If contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with saline and consider using medicated eyedrops.
