Tina Davies X New York Tattoo Show - Tina Davies Professional

Tina Davies X New York Tattoo Show

Have you ever been to a tattoo show?

The first one I attended was 10 years ago, and it was so incredible, I felt like I was Alice in Wonderland.

NY Tattoo Show, March 2017

The display of body art, tools, inks, swag, history, and booths full of artists working so intensely on their masterpieces BLEW ME AWAY. Everything was so vivid, so raw, so real-time mind-blowing.

I was literally in awe watching artists bringing 3-D life to portraits, plus shading and blending a multitude of shapes and textures on the ultimate canvas: the skin. I could have watched them tattoo all day, like a parrot sitting on someone's shoulder. I've long admired body tattoo art as the ultimate medium for artistic expression and cannot bow down to these extremely talented hard-working and dedicated group of artists enough.

NY Tattoo Show, March 2017

This month on October 21, I have the honor and privilege to be one of those people tattooing at United Inks' New York Tattoo Show bringing cosmetic tattooing to the world of body art hosted by Lou Rubino and Jackie Rubino

Never before have permanent makeup and body tattooing come together under one roof until now and I am so excited that I get to be a part of this monumental occasion and have the chance to learn more from the world of traditional tattooing.

While the evolution of permanent makeup (particularly microblading) practices have come a long way in mainstream beauty in the last few years, there is still a long way to go in terms of safety standards. Looking to traditional tattooing as an example of best practices and standards is going to help elevate permanent makeup significantly. Unlike permanent makeup artists, a tattoo artist apprentices for many long hours (usually at least a year) before working as an artist in a proper studio and have extensive training in all facets of art theory, needle making, sterilization best practices and much more.

NY Tattoo Show, March 2017

Currently, there are no regulations in microblading training and standards vary so vastly across the board that anyone with no prior training on esthetics, working on human skin, tattooing, permanent makeup, or any other related disciplines can become certified and working on real-life clients after taking as little as a two-day course. This poses a huge risk to our industry and clients as many people start working on the human skin much too soon without the proper supervision and experience.

As you all know, health and safety standards are very close to my heart. Like permanent makeup, the only governing body is your region's Health and Safety Board, but traditional tattooing is great at self-regulating artists and ensuring that they follow the highest standards and regulations when it comes to working on clients. We as artists all need to educate ourselves and learn from others in similar fields, so that we ensure we are providing the best possible services to our clients!

To kick off this first-ever event, I'll be doing a live Blade and Shade demo with Harmony Microblade and Permablend Pigments in state-of-the-art IMAX theater.  Watch how I bring dimension and realism to an eyebrow design by combining these two unique processes to give a woman brows of her dreams!

Do you have to have a permanent cosmetic license to attend the show? I am a medical aesthetician and provide micro-blading to my clients. I have two years experience now in micro-blading and would love to continue my education.
